CRA Vote

Today is the day that will determine if the vote to use the Congressional Review Act will pass the Senate committee.

After the painstaking effort to gather support and push the CRA vote, the verdict on the first step to overturning the FCC’s Restoring Internet Freedom will be decided today. Democrat Sen. Edward Markey called it the most crucial week for both Internet and the Senate to see.

The CRA vote will appeal to all senators to bestow a vote on a measure considered to be the initial step in a Congressional resolution to abolish the Restoring Internet Freedom. The procedure to restore net neutrality will advance to the House of Representatives and then Pres. Trump’s approval. However, before it may do so, it needs to gather sufficient votes in order to pass each hurdle. Senators are looking forward to the CRA vote as the act that would reverse the FCC’s repeal of the Title II order.

“The time has come for Congress to undo the FCC’s decision to repeal net neutrality rules. Will we stand with the American public, who understand why net neutrality is vital, or will we side with those who wish to control how we use the internet? The choice should be clear–the American public should always come first,” stated Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson (FL) said in a statement. “

Aside from the Republicans, major ISPs companies also disagree with the CRA vote. They presented a letter to Senators Mitch McConnell (KY) and Chuck Schumer (NY). According to the CEOs of NCTA–The Internet & Television Association, the CTIA, and USTelecom argue that the CRA vote would cripple crucial investments required to connect poverty-stricken and rural areas to hi-speed broadband.

At the Decenternet platform, all internet traffic is treated equally whether it’s an app, website or contents. It preserves the open internet and enables while protecting free speech.
